流行自由软件播放器VLC的开发商VideoLAN宣布了libaacs项目。
libaacs只是一个研究项目，主要目的是提供了一个自由软件库去实现AACS规格。根据维基百科的介绍，AACS 是一种内容发行和数字版权管理的标准，蓝光光盘使用的防拷贝技术就是基于AACS标准。AACS由AACS LA基金会维护，成员包括了迪士尼、英特尔、微软、三菱、松下、华纳兄弟、IBM、东芝以及Sony。libaacs项目主要是由Doom9的黑客开发，VideoLAN声称它不提供能用于破解加密版权材料的密钥或证书。
