OpenAFS 1.8 发布了，自从 OpenAFS Andrew 分布式文件系统上一次更新以来，已经有好几年了。 

OpenAFS 继续支持从 Windows 到 BSD 到 Linux 和 macOS 的所有主要操作系统，但是 OpenAFS 1.8 发布终于不支持 2.6 以前的 Linux 内核。OpenAFS 1.8 还带来了 RPM 包装改进。 

更新内容：

• The new stable relase branch includes sweeping changes throughout the tree; 

• a new KeyFileExt for long-term keys that supersedes rxkad.keytab

• a new (logrotate-compatible) log rotation scheme

• pthreaded ubik servers enabled by default along with other pthread conversions

• many additional code quality fixes spotted by static analysis tools

• the use of Heimdal's roken and crypto support libraries, and API and file support for many configuration knobs.

• This release also switches the client to use encryption by default, to match many distribution packages and the Windows client

• removes support for Linux versions prior to 2.6.
