Introducing the IntelliJ IDEA Localization EAP for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean

Your favorite JetBrains IDE, IntelliJ IDEA, which has long been available only in English, is now being localized into three languages! At JetBrains, we strive to help you be more productive. We also understand that in order to take advantage of all the capabilities of our tools to the full, many users would prefer to have them in their native language. JetBrains has already localized the company website, and today we’re announcing the start of the Early Access Program (EAP) for IntelliJ IDEA localization.

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this work: our users who requested language support, the Chinese user community, who took it upon themselves to create their own plugins and helped us launch our effort, and the Japanese company WillBrains , who willingly contributed to our localization project. We are grateful for all your time and effort.

What the localization EAP is

Just like with our new features, the current localization EAP lets you preview IntelliJ IDEA inChinese (Simplified),Japanese, andKorean.

Localization is still in progress. We’ve been working on it since the beginning of this year, and believe us, this is a tough task! At the moment, partial localization is available. We’ve localized the core UI, i.e. the most-used dialogues and features according to our statistics.

How to change the language of IntelliJ IDEA

Language packs are plugins forChinese,Japanese, andKorean that can be easily installed as described in the IntelliJ IDEA documentation . Don’t hesitate to try these plugins now!

The plugins are compatible with IntelliJ IDEA starting with 2020.1.1.

How to submit feedback on the localized parts of IntelliJ IDEA

We’d be happy to get your feedback on the parts of the UI that has already been localized. Submitting feedback has never been easier: you can submit it directly from the IDE or via YouTrack using these templates for theChinese,Japanese, orKorean versions of the IDE, either in English or in your native language. We have a special YouTrack subsystem, localization, for the relevant issues.

What if you find other types of bugs or have feature requests? These are submitted in English, asusual.

What our next steps will be

Our development and localization teams are working around the clock to deliver the fully localized version of IntelliJ IDEA. The next IntelliJ-based IDEs on our to-do list are PyCharm, WebStorm, and RubyMine.
