Apache Solr is the most widely used open source solution for full-text search in terms of query volume and combined corpus size. Unfortunately, it’s still hard to manage, particularly at large scale. Yet the majority of the world’s companies running Solr run it on a CMS platform that doesn’t specialize in building high-performing search solutions at the largest scale in the world as Lucidworks does.
